Navajo State Park, Colorado

We arrived at Navajo State Park on Monday, August 31st. We had a good campsite with a great view of Lake Navajo, which was up quite a bit from last year at the same time. Julie and I enjoyed a nice day out on the lake on the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend and drove 26-miles to the dam in New Mexico. We enjoyed a picnic lunch and headed back on the sunny, blue sky day.

On Friday, our friend Wendy stopped by on her way to the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally over Labor Day weekend in Ignacio, Colorado. The campground filled up on Friday for the weekend, but we relaxed in our campsite, and watched all the campers and boats come and go.

On Monday, Labor Day, Wendy and her friend Gary stopped by on their motorcycles to visit with us. We hadn’t seen Gary in a few years and it was good to catch up. On Tuesday morning Wendy stopped by and we took the boat out for the day. She overnighted with us and we enjoyed dinner and a card game of 3-13. Julie won again.

We decided to leave Navajo a day early and left Friday morning, Sept. 11th. We overnighted at the Ute Mountain Casino RV Park, just outside of Cortez, Colorado. My sister Marcia and brother-in-law Mike met us in their motorhome at the RV park.

We enjoyed the seafood buffet at the casino restaurant. The RV park gave us a voucher for $5 and we parlayed that into almost $80 winnings playing penny slot machines, which covered the cost of dinners and RV park fees.
On Saturday, Sept. 12th, we headed out for Page, Arizona and Lake Powell. We stopped for lunch at the Burger King in Kayenta, where they have several exhibits dedicated to the Navajo Code Talkers from World War II.
