Getting Warm in LaBelle

The past several weeks have flown by. Our friends Glenn and Angie invited us to go, along with two other couples, to the Fort Myers Brewery on a recent Wednesday night for their “Burgers & Beer” special. Some food truck grilled burgers to order so you got a burger, fries and a beer for $10. Julie and I enjoyed burgers with bleu cheese and grilled onions and a cold brew.

It has really warmed up here in LaBelle. On February 8^th it was still 80-degrees at 7PM and today it’ll get up to 88.

We enjoyed dinner at Mel’s Diner in Fort Myers one-night last week. We went early because it is very popular amongst us retirees here in Florida and it gets crowded around 5PM. After dinner we enjoyed some Italian ice and custard at Rita’s.

We celebrated Mardi Gras last Tuesday here at the RV resort with a golf cart parade, pool party, and dinner.

We have a busy weekend planned with going to a Don McLean, of “American Pie” fame, concert on Friday night. Saturday Julie and I participate in a 5K walk/run fund raiser for the Caloosa Humane Society.  

We volunteer to help out at the bi-weekly Sunday breakfast here at the RV resort. I grill Canadian bacon and cook scrambled eggs, while Julie is busy mixing pancake batter and helping out in the kitchen.    

Meanwhile, our cat Shasta is busy soaking up some Florida sun.

Still Livin’ in LaBelle

We’ve been busy the past two weeks here in LaBelle, Florida. On Sunday, January 21^st, we met some old friends Craig and Donette for dinner in Fort Meyers. They were on a vacation to Florida from Wisconsin. I used to work with both of them in Colorado Springs until I retired in November 2010 and we hadn’t seen them in over 7 years. It was fun to catch up. 

On Thursday, January 25^th, I drove 120-miles down to the Miami VA Medical Center for an appointment for a hearing test. It went well except for the traffic getting in and out of Miami.

We love going to RV shows and the next day Friday, we enjoyed the Fort Myers RV show. We especially enjoyed looking through the Airstream Tommy Bahama “Relax Edition” trailer.

We’ve settled in to the RV park activities, including Bingo on Wednesday nights. I won one game on the first night we played. We didn't win anything last Wednesday...

We hosted cocktail hour at our site last Thursday and everyone enjoyed my “Steve-o-Ritas”. We enjoyed the snacks other couples brought and their good company.

Super Bowl Sunday today. We’re still trying to get used to the 6:30PM start time for the game. We liked our 4:30PM Mountain Time Zone start time better.

Livin’ in LaBelle

It was a busy week for us here in LaBelle, Florida. On Tuesday we got our new tire covers and installed them on our motorhome. Then later we went to an afternoon social at Glenn and Angie’s RV site.

On Wednesday we made a quick trip up I-75 to the Tampa RV SuperShow. We especially liked looking at the new Winnebego Horizon motorhome. The sleek interior is very different from any other motorhome we’ve ever seen. The new Horizon model was named “RV of the Year” for 2018.   

We enjoyed lunch with old friends Jeff and Carol from Mission, Texas who were in Florida for a family reunion and vacation.  We also enjoyed looking inside the $2 million Newell motor coach. Every Newell is custom, hand-made and they only manufacture 35-40 new coaches a year.

Julie and I went to a Lovin’ Spoonful concert on Friday night in Bonita Springs. The band was immensely popular from 1965 to 1970, but they have continued performing for over 50 years.

Happy New Year 2018

We left Key West on Saturday, December 23^rd, and “moved” to Oak Grove RV Resort in LaBelle, Florida. Oak Grove is a new RV resort, located in the heart of LaBelle, about 30 miles east of Fort Myers.

We initially stayed in a nice site on the lake, but after the Christmas holiday decided to move to a different site with some shade.

We’ve enjoyed our time so far back in the Fort Myers area with a several trips to the Sun Harvest Citrus market to pick up some freshly-picked oranges, strawberries, and fresh squeezed orange-cranberry juice.

We attended the New Year’s Eve party and dinner at our resort clubhouse. The New Year’s ball dropped at 10PM here in this 55+ resort.

It got cold here in early-January with snow in northern Florida and temperatures near freezing here in south-central Florida. The cold snap lasted almost a week and we had to turn on our heat at night.

Merry Christmas

The past month here in Key West has gone by very quickly. We've grilled out here at our motorhome many nights.

We have also enjoyed dinner out at many of our favorite places, such as Sunset Lounge at the Navy base or Alonzo's Oyster Bar down by the Key West Bight marina.

 

We enjoyed a new place we tried for the first time, called The Blue Macaw.

Last Friday night we went to the 27th annual Key West “Bight” before Christmas lighted boat parade. It’s always fun to see all the decorated boats.

 

Tonight we met Ken, the son of our friends in Germany, whom we hadn't seen in 20 years. It was good to Ken and fun to catch up.

Sadly, we leave Key West this coming Saturday, December 23^rd concluding our two-month stay. We will move up to LaBelle, Florida where we’ll spend a month. LaBelle is inland, just east of Ft. Meyers.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our family and friends.
